Course Description
This course is intended for students
who desire to master the use of
desktop publishing, illustration and
photo manipulating software.
Emphasis on creation of student
projects including newsletters, logos,
package design, finished art, brochures,
and promotional materials.
Principles of layout, design and illustration
will be practiced.

Tampa Bay Technical High School (TBT) was established in 1969 as Tampa Bay Vocational Technical School. 
TBT's program is now an exceptional blend of academic rigor and technical relevance. A dedicated faculty provides instruction in everything from advanced placement to certified technical skill courses.  The campus resembles a community college campus with large laboratory facilities for several unique technology programs. The student population is an even mix of ethnicities. The students must apply to this school and transportation is provided by the school district through a bus transfer system.



Course Goals
The student will be introduced to:
- Traditional drawing, sketching and illustration techniques
- Fundamentals of layout and design
- Desktop publishing and photo manipulation software
- Software The Adobe Creative Suite®
- Presentation software
- Basic web graphics and web building.
- Printing and publishing operations in the local community.
- Practical applications of the scanners and digital photography
- Research concerning job opportunities
The student will be encouraged to be creative in the use of design, development and preparation of published materials.

Statement of Intent
Upon successful completion of this course, the student should possess advanced skill and confidence to pursue the concepts and processes of commercial art, and to make effective decisions for practical applications of the technology.

Course Requirements
· Reading assignments should be completed prior to class discussion.
· A portfolio of assignments will be kept by each student. The instructor will approve a project for portfolio, or will critique it and return it for revision. Only those assignments approved for portfolio by the instructor will be accepted.
· Due to the hands-on nature of the subject matter, class attendance is critical.
· Sharing of ideas and a work-group atmosphere will be encouraged. However, each student is
expected to do his or her own work on assignments and projects.
· Class time will be allotted for work on individual assignments. However, work outside of the
class period may be required.

Grading
90-100 -A | 80-90 - B | 70-80 - C | 60-70 - D | 0-60 - F

If a student is absent on due date: Assignment will be due on the date of return.
EXCEPTIONS must be made prior to due dates.
PLEASE NOTE: Proper spelling, grammar and punctuation will be expected.

Senior Capstone
Portfolio of course work: 50% of final grade
