2007-08 Program of Work
This year, your state officers have established an impressive Program of Work. We are relying on you, the members of Florida SkillsUSA, to help make sure these goals are attained. This coming year will be filled with exciting community service projects, some really cool professional development workshops, a newsletter to help keep our members informed, and of course, tons of spirit for this year's theme, "The Next Wave of Champions!"
Here's a break-down of what we have planned for this year:
Community Service: This year, we plan on having a few community service projects that will be both fun and beneficial to the community. A couple projects that you may recognize from last year include the Penny Drive at this year's State Leadership Training Workshop and the Pack-A-Can project at this year's State Leadership and Skills Conference. Also, there is a plan to collect gifts around the holiday season and deliver them to local shelters and organizations. This will likely be called "SkillsUSA Holidays," or something to that effect.
Professional Development: One of SkillsUSA's main focuses is to work on students' professional development. This is to ensure that every person involved with SkillsUSA can be a leader and a role model in the workplace. This year's Professional Development committee has a few workshops planned for the State Conference. These workshops will work on abilities such as how to present yourself, how to successfully complete an interview, and other such skills.
Public Relations: You are now looking at the first step in the Public Relations portion of the Program of Work: communication with every member. Newsletters will be coming out throughout the year to keep every member updated on past events, upcoming events, and general SkillsUSA information. Tim Lawrence, the Executive Director of National SkillsUSA set a goal for our organization this year: to increase our membership to 300,000. Public relations are one of the best ways to do this. Let people know what SkillsUSA is and what we do. The state officers will be relying on the regional officers to keep in communication with all of the members this year.
Spirit: This is perhaps the most fun part of Florida SkillsUSA. Our theme this year is "The Next Wave of Champions." It's up to every member to display that in any way that they can, in their chapter, their region and all over the state. Decorations are a fun way to show your spirit, as well as dressing up in appropriate clothing to display the theme. Contact your state officers for ideas on how to show your spirit, or just let your imagination lead you. The state officers would appreciate spirit suggestions as well.I hope everyone is ready for a spectacular year. We want you to show us your dedication to Florida SkillsUSA and your amazing spirit any time you can!
