How to Become a SkillsUSA Member

SkillsUSA is a national organization serving more than
245,000 high school and college students and professional
members who are enrolled in training programs in technical,
skilled, and service occupations, including health occupations.
SkillsUSA has almost a quarter million student members
annually, organized into 13,000 chapters and 54 state and
territorial associations (including the District of Columbia,
Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands).
SkillsUSA prepares America's high performance workers.
It provides quality education experiences for students in
leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development.
It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and
communications skills. It emphasizes total quality at work,
high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education
and pride in the dignity of work. SkillsUSA also promotes
understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement
in community service activities.
There are three ways you could join SkillsUSA. Join an
existing chapter at your school, find a chapter in your area,
or start a chapter.
First, and foremost the easiest is to join an existing chapter.
Check with the school's or organization's administrative offices.
They will have a list of what clubs and organizations the
institution supports.  Once you know the advisors name;
contact them, pay your dues, attend meetings, and prepare
yourself to compete in your skill at the local/regional, state,
and national levels. Dues depend upon the state but most run
from 8 to 15 dollars. Each club may have other charges, so
check with the advisor. You can get a better idea by going
to http://www.skillsusa.org/roster.html and downloading the forms.

The website of choice for TBT is: www.skillsusa.info
Check TBT Chapter News for latest news and updates.
There is also a suggested agenda for your 1st club meeting
on Sept. the 8th.

On the SkillsUSA website is excellent support for the advisors
and students. The new advisors guide will be very helpful to a
first year chapter. Click Here for GUIDE
Once you are a member of a chapter then you'll be able to compete
in leadership and skills contests at the local/ regional, state,
and possibly qualify for the national contest in Kansas City.
Good luck, and remember all your research and time will pay off.
